The player Real Madrid needs to sign right now

The only player I wanted Real Madrid to sign since the 2016 season was Iago Aspas. I said we needed to sign him in 2016/17 after his really good first season at Celta, his asking price was around 30 M. Nobody listened, the next season he scored 26 goals in all competitions. The next season he was again available at a similar price, I suggested we buy him, I was shut down. But he scored 23 goals again in the 2017/18 season, not to mention how he created over 30 big chances in all competitions that season. This season, with Lopetegui as manager, who gave Iago Aspas his first Spain cap, and Iago’s 40 M release clause, I suggested buying him once again. You didn’t listen, he has scored 10 goals in the league already, 1 less than Bale and Benzema combined.

As you can tell, I’m very salty Madrid decided not to purchase him. However, Iago is now turning 32 in 7 months. At this moment of time, it would be wise not to purchase him. Instead, I’d say we go after this guy.

Pablo Sarabia

Pablo Sarabia

Pablo Sarabia is an attacking midfielder who plays for Sevilla and in my opinion, he is among the top 5 players in La Liga this season, with 6 goals and 6 assists in 17 appearances.

Pablo’s xG and xA stats in the 2018/19 season (http://understat.com)

It’s not very often you get a player who takes 2.5 shots per 90 minutes while also making 2.24 key passes per 90 minutes, not to mention his combined 0.76 expected assists and goals per 90 minutes.

With just 18 months left on his contract, the €18m release clause should be enough for Flo Perez to deposit the cheque for the former Real Madrid Castilla player. If there is one player I would like Real Madrid to buy this January window, it is this guy.

Solari runs an extremely rigid 4–3–3 formation in which he plays Lucas and Bale as natural wingers and decides not to play Isco (a natural attacking midfielder) is hurting the team when it comes to creating chances. So we have not only lost an elite finisher of chances in Ronaldo, our coach’s tactics are ensuring that we don’t create those chances in the first place.

On a side note, Solari should be removed from his managerial role as fast as possible and we should start searching for short term viable alternatives. But since this question is about transfers, my first request would be to bring in Pablo who can help solve some of these problems, but to fully see the benefits of this move, our current manager must be changed as well.

Real Madrid is going through a historic drought, never in a long period have we had such a bad offence.

And the icing on the cake is that most of our key players are ageing and well into their thirties as you can observe in this graph I made.

In such a situation, a player like Sarabia, who has shown that he can perform at the big competitions, with great performances in both the Champions League and the League this year, and is only 26 years is a necessity.
